Privacy policy — Blurbit

Last updated: 5 October 2026

In short: Blurbit processes your videos exclusively on your device. The app has no permission to access the internet. No videos, images or any other data are transmitted to us or to third parties. There is no user account, no advertising and no analytics or tracking services.

2. What the app processes on your device

  • Selected video: You choose a video using Android's media picker. The app only gets access to this one video, not to the rest of your gallery.
  • Face detection: The app looks for faces in every frame of the video in order to blur them. It uses Google's ML Kit and MediaPipe libraries, whose detection models are included in the app and run on the device. People are not identified; no facial features are stored or matched against other data. The detected positions are only kept in memory or in the app's temporary storage during processing and are discarded afterwards.
  • Result: The processed video is saved to your gallery in the folder “Movies/Blurbit”. You can delete it at any time in the app or in your gallery. Temporary files are deleted after processing.
  • Settings: Your settings (e.g. blur strength) are stored locally in the app.
  • Sharing: When you share a video, the app hands it over to the app you choose (e.g. a messenger). That app is then responsible for any further processing.

All of this happens exclusively on your device and under your control. We have no access to your videos or results.

3. No data transmission

The app is not allowed to access the internet (no Android “INTERNET” permission). Therefore neither your videos nor usage or diagnostic data of the included libraries can leave the device. We do not use any analytics, advertising or tracking services.

4. Google Play

The app is distributed via Google Play. When you download and update it, Google processes data under its own responsibility, see Google's privacy policy. If you have agreed in your Android settings to share usage and diagnostic data with app developers, Google provides us with aggregated statistics and crash reports (e.g. device model, Android version, location of the error in the code). These contain no videos and are used only to fix bugs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). As we do not receive any personal data about you through the app, we usually hold no data about you. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the Data Protection Commissioner of Lower Saxony.

6. Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process your details only to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them as soon as they are no longer needed.

7. Changes

We update this privacy policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies. The German version is legally binding.
